Getting a Surface Piercing

Just remember that the rejection rate of surface piercings is about 95% so even though you think it's a cool piercing, the risks are pretty high.

Check out this dude's series of surface piercings. They make a neat star.

Tattoo Care and Advice

When you get a tattoo, whether it's your first, second, third, or whatever, you want to make sure that you know how to take care of it. Even though this may not be your first tattoo, you may not have been given good aftercare advice the last time you were tattooed.

Make sure that you keep the tattoo out of sunlight and don't soak it in water.

Wash the tattoo with gentle, non-smelly soap, and apply a thin layer of A&D or another approved tattoo care ointment.

You want to ask your tattooist if he has any tips, as well. Don't take what a friend tells you without a little research behind it. You'd hate to spend the money and sit through the pain for the tattoo to fade or get infected.

Cross Tattoo Designs

There are many reasons why you may consider getting a cross tattoo. There are also many designs and styles for you to choose from.

You may consider a more religious approach, in which you may want to feature Jesus Christ, angels, a purple sash, thorns, or rosary beads.

Or, you may consider a tribal approach with thick black designs, or a celtic approach with woven designs.

In any sense cross tattoos can be as elaborate or simplicistic as you want. Just remember that with any tattoo, it is permanent, so be happy with the design before the needle hits your skin.

Kanji tattoos are pretty popular amongst those who are tattooed. They're fairly simple designed tattoos, and can range from different languages. Usually, though, you'll see Kanji symbols in terms of Chinese and oriental characters.

The one big thing that you want to consider when you get a kanji tattoo is that the characters mean what you think they mean. It's recommended that you check with someone who fluently speaks and writes the language of choice.

Dragon Tattoo Designs

Dragon tattoos are far and wide in terms of their design and meaning. Each tattoo is different even if two people pick the same tattoo off of the same flash. Each tattoo artist will put their own swing to the tattoo, with the customers wishes, mind you.

But, for the most part the most common dragon tattoos are chinese dragons and tribal dragons. Oriental dragons are those that are benevolent and represent strength, whereas the western dragon is the malicious, evil bearing dragon.

Different people get dragon tattoos for different reasons.

UV Tattoo Designs

UV tattoos are fairly new to the tattoo market. Some find they are unhealthy, whereas others find them just like other tattoos. UV tattoo ink has not been approved by the FDA, so you want to get black light tattoos with caution. Below, you'll find a link that will provide pictures, designs, and health information in regards to black light ink tattoos.

Black Light Ink Tattoo Pictures, Health, & Designs

Remember that all the information that I provide, is all from a personal standpoint with real statistics and data to back it up. I will admit that I have looked into black light tattoos, but I have decided to wait until the ink has been approved by the FDA. Otherwise, you risk infection, rash, and a poor tattoo. Many people have found their tattoos to turn brown.

Talk to your tattoo artist and ask his opinion. Some refuse to use the ink, whereas others don't care.

Star Tattoo Designs

First off, I want to say there has been a transfer of admin to this blog. I am the new owner and writer on Body Mods and Modifications. The previous admin, had had her fill of the body modification blog.

I want to go over star tattoos just a little bit. I'll be brief. Star tattoos are pretty popular today, whether they are the average nautical star, shooting star, or still star picture.

Each star tattoo will have a meaning of its own for each person, but in general different stars have different meanings. Shooting stars can represent shooting for your goals and aspirations. Nautical stars can represent protection and guidance.

You may chose the design and type of star by the number of points and the direction of the star. Choose your tattoo wisely, as for the most part, it will be with your forever.

Make-Up

Since body modifications include anythign that modifies your body, would you consider makeup as a temporary body modification?

I don't think it would be considered a modification because all that it's doing is covering blemishes and facial flaws. But, I could see where it may be considered a modification.

Like colored contacts, they're modifying the color of your eye, but it's temporary. When you take out the contacts, you remove the color.

No one said that a body modification has to be permanent.

What do you think?

Body Modification: Fad, Trend, or Here To Stay?

What do you think? Are body modifications here to stay? Or will their popularity begin to fade away? Consider tanning, hair dye, and plastic surgery as a body modification.

Body Modifications

Let's break the theme a little bit. Time for a little rant or whatever you will call it.

Basically, I was thinking about this yesterday. I had my bottom belly button repierced. It looks great. You can see it HERE.

And, on the way home, I was thinking about it. I mean why do I put myself through the pain of a new piercing or tattoo? I mean honestly, piercings can be taken out, close up, and repierced. Tattoos are relatively permanent. But, that's all beside the point.

I'm not an ugly person. So, why do I keep getting holes put in me?

Well, I think it's because the pain brings me back. It opens up my mind, body, and soul, a little bit. Brings something new to the mundane. Adds to the body.

In a way, I see the human body as a canvase that can be decorated at will, but of course that is not always the case.

I dunno... What do you think?

Food for thought....

    Portrait Tattoos

If you're interested in creating a memorial of a beloved friend, family member, or pet, why not consider a tattoo. This allows you beloved to be with you no matter what- through thick and thin.

Portrait tattoos require a good deal of details, so finding a clear, crisp photo is a must!

Try to find a picture that is at least 3 inches by 3 inches.

Also, when considering the size of the tattoo, remember that the smaller the tattoo the fewer details and the less the quality you will get.

    Wing Tattoo Designs

Wing Tattoos are popular among different people. You church-goer may have a set of traditional feathered wings while your Joe Blow on the street may have a set of tribal wings.

Tattooed wings can represent different things to different people. You may see a tattooed set of wings and see protection under the wing of God or the archangels, whereas someone else may see mysticism and magic.

Wings can be small or large, depending on your personal tastes. They can be on you thigh, calf, shoulder, arm, nape, or back. Most wing tattoos are on the back, as to wear them like the angels.

    Tattoo Removal

It was once thought that tattoos were permanent, but in today's society there are various methods of tattoo removal. You can try fade away techniques, such as Tat B Gone, or you can undergo laser tattoo removal.

In either sense, the cost is probably going to be more than you spent on getting the tattoo. Depending on the size, placement, and color of the tattoo, how much you pay will depend on it. Also, depending on the number of treatments, you final taly will go increase, even still.

But, sometimes, you may feel the need to have a tattoo gone from you life, and in those cases, you may consider reading the article- HERE.

    Animal Tattoos

Animal Tattoos are very popular amongst those who are tattooed. One can use an animal tattoo to symbolize a turning point, achieving a goal, or a characteristic that one chooses to hold high.

I, personally, have one animal tattoo. It is the APBT that is posted above. Although, currently only an outline, it will be shaded in due time. I felt the need to get a tattoo of an American Pit Bull Terrier because of several reasons. (1) It represents my first APBT, Chance, who was stolen from me in 2005. (2) It represents all APBT's that I will have until I die. (3) It represents courage, strength, devotion, and loyalty, all characteristics that I hope to one day have as inbred as the APBT.

But, in any case, animals represent more than just a living being.

    Tattoos in the Workplace

Here's a thought to think about...

If it was socially acceptable to have tattoos any where you pleased, would you get a tattoo (or more tattooo)?

The reason I ask is because I currently have two tattoos, and I just question whether I would have more if I could...

Jobs turn down those who are tattooed. But is that right? I mean, yes, it may not be the most professional to have a visible tattoo in certain workplaces and professions, such as the medical field. I mean how ironic would it be for the man, or woman, lasering off your tattoo, to have a complete arm band?

I've never heard of a company who allows visible tattoos or piercings. I will admit, that it tends to rely on your manager as to how he will bend the company rules. Many retail companies, will bend the rules, according to the General Manager in charge, but with higher ups come in, body mods must be covered. Some customer service companies will allow for visible tattoos, as long as they are not offensive. Whether this is a part of the company policy or a managers choice, I don't know.

But, anyway... If you were to be hired even though you had visible tattoo, would you get more? Or would you get more visbible tattoos, versus those hidden under your clothes?

    Ear Stretching

If you are interesting in stretching your ears to a larger gauge, you may want to consider all your options.

Because you are modifying a current piercing, don't think that you don't need to fully understand what you're doing. Make sure that you do it right. Otherwise, you can have a blowout, tear, or infection. You don't want this.
